Crime Prevention

Crime Prevention Officer

Lt. Lance Koppa performs many of the crime prevention duties in Highland Park. Lt. Koppa is a member of the Texas Crime Prevention Association and is a state certified Crime Prevention Specialist.

In the effort to reduce crime, we must work together to reduce the "opportunity" that a crime will take place. Things to avoid:

  • Leaving garage doors open, especially at night
  • Valuables left in plain view inside a vehicle, either locked or unlocked
  • Unlocked entry doors to a home or business
  • Unsecured gates
  • Open, unattended purses in shopping carts (distraction theft technique)

All of these areas are examples where a slight change could significantly reduce the chances that you will be a victim of a crime.

Email Lt. Koppa or call 214-521-5000 if you have questions regarding personal safety and property protection. We may not be able to remove the "desire" or "ability" for an individual to commit a crime, but we can certainly reduce the opportunity for a crime to take place.
