WHAT IS A DROUGHT?
From the water supplier's perspective, a drought is an extended period of time with little or no rain that can impact water resources. With a prolonged drought, rainfall totals produce flows that produce lower lake levels and dry soil conditions which absorb the rainfall.
WHAT ARE MY WATERING DAYS?
Watering is permitted twice-a-week for the Town of Highland Park.
- EVEN numbered addresses can water on SUNDAYS and THURSDAY
- ODD numbered addresses can water on SATURDAYS and WEDNESDAYS
- There is no watering permitted on Mondays.
WHY DO DROUGHT MEASURES VARY ACROSS THE METROPLEX?
Drought measures in one community might not be applicable to another. Each water distribution system is different and many municipalities develop drought contingency plans specific to their community.
WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP BY REDUCING MY WATER CONSUMPTION?
It is not so much about when you can water, but whether you need to water! The most impact a resident will have in reducing consumption is through outdoor usage. Almost 50% of landscape water is lost due to evaporation or runoff caused by overwatering. To make a difference, follow the watering plan set forth by the Town, determine if drip irrigation may be an option for your landscape, schedule a FREE irrigation check-up with our licensed irrigator, and routinely check your indoor fixtures for leaks.
