[ARCHIVED] Library Card Sign-Up Month

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, a time when the Highland Park Harvey R. “Bum” Bright Library joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind parents, caregivers, teachers, and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.

There is nothing more empowering than signing up for your own library card. Through access to technology, media resources, and educational programs, a library card gives students the tools to succeed in the classroom and provides people opportunities to pursue their dreams and passions.

“Libraries play an important role in the education and development of children,” said Kortney Nelson, Town Librarian. “We have library programs and resources that serve students and learners of all ages.” Since its opening in 1930, the Highland Park Library honors and provides for the community’s informational, educational, and entertainment needs. Today, the staff continues to expand upon this central role by bringing in experts for programs and lectures, offering access to online databases and learning sources, assisting parents with literacy development for their children, and much more.

The HP Library, along with libraries everywhere, continue to adapt and expand services to meet the evolving needs of our community. There is no charge for a library card if you are a resident of the Town of Highland Park.

To sign up for a library card, please visit the Library website to access the online application, call 214-559-9400 to apply over the phone, or visit the Library in person. Library hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Library is closed on Sundays and Mondays. The Library is located inside the Highland Park Town Hall at 4700 Drexel Drive. The Highland Park Library faithfully serves as the community’s Connection to Lifelong Learning
