[ARCHIVED] Great Job UP and HP Summer Readers! - Summer Reading Clubs Donate to Reading Partners

Summer Reading Club Book Donation Image

This year the University Park Public Library (UPPL) and the Highland Park Library (HPL) teamed up to donate books to Reading Partners as part of the libraries’ respective Summer Reading Clubs. When children completed their summer reading logs, they picked out a book to donate in their name to Reading Partners. On Friday, September 23, library staff from both libraries visited Reading Partners and delivered over 200 donated books.

Reading Partners empowers students to succeed in reading and in life by recruiting and training community volunteers to provide 1:1 literacy tutoring. A national educational nonprofit organization, it works with under-resourced elementary schools to support students who are reading below grade level. Reading Partners is an essential tool that can help students who struggle with reading unlock and develop the foundational skills they need to succeed.

The books donated through the Summer Reading Clubs will help to grow the Reading Partners’s library available to volunteers and students. This library provides them with a variety of books to reinforce the lessons learned during weekly reading sessions. Reading Partners helps students become strong, confident readers with a passion for learning. For more information on Reading Partners, its mission, news, and volunteer opportunities, please visit their website.

The UPPL would like to thank Briggs Freeman / Sothebys International for their sponsorship of the Summer Reading Program, which includes funds to purchase the books for donation.

The HPL would like to thank the Friends of the Highland Park Library for funding the book donation program and Christine McKenny and Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate for sponsoring the special events for the HP Library’s Summer Reading Club again this year.

The UPPL is located at 8383 Preston Center Plaza, Suite 200, 75225. For more information about the UPPL, please visit www.uptexas.org/Government/UP-Public-Library or call 214-363-9095.

The HPL is located at 4700 Drexel Drive, 75205. For more information about the HPL, please visit www.hplibrary.info or call 214-559-9400.
