[ARCHIVED] Highland Park Library Celebrates National Library Week

National Library Week 2016.jpg

Transform Your Ideas about the Library

April 10 through April 16, the Highland Park Library joins libraries in schools, campuses and communities nationwide in celebrating the dynamic changes that are happening in today’s libraries. National Library Week is a time to highlight the transforming roles of libraries, librarians and library workers.

Libraries today are more about what they do, for and with library users as opposed to what they have for patrons. Libraries aren’t only a place of quiet study, but also creative and engaging community centers where people can collaborate using new technologies, or just relax. Libraries of all types are evolving to meet the needs of the communities they serve.

Libraries are many things to many people. Library staff work with elected officials, small business owners, students and the public at large to discover and address the needs of their communities. Whether through offering e-books and technology classes, materials for English-language learners, resources for job seekers or offering continuous learning resources, libraries and librarians listen to the community they serve, and they respond.

Visit the Library soon and discover the many print and digital resources available to help you transform your life. While at the Library, apply for your library card if you do not already have one. Highland Park Library cards are free for residents of the Town of Highland Park. The Library is located at 4700 Drexel Drive, 75205 and is open Tuesday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information, visit the library online or call 214-559-9400.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.
