Started in 1981 by Wichita, Kansas Police Chief Richard LaMunyon, The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is Special Olympics’ largest grassroots fund-raiser and public awareness vehicle in the world. Under the guidance of Chief Fant in 1988, Highland Park DPS joined the LETR movement and recruited officers to support athletes and their families at the yearly Texas Special Olympics Summer Games. Now celebrating twenty-five years of involvement with the LETR, Highland Park DPS partners with law enforcement agencies from around the state to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics Texas.
