Children's Book Week, which is May 4 through May 10, is the annual celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading. Established in 1919, Children's Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. This year you are encouraged to honor Children’s Book Week by visiting the Highland Park Library to share a favorite children’s book with a friend or loved one, bringing a child in your life to a Story Time, and using your library card to download a children’s digital book.

Share a children’s book - The Highland Park Library is located at 4700 Drexel Drive and is open Tuesday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Children’s Room at the Library has picture books, beginning chapter books, juvenile fiction, juvenile non-fiction, and many more collections for read-aloud fun.

Attend a Story Time - The Library offers weekly story times for children. Lapsit for little ones birth through 24 months is on Wednesday, Toddler Story Time for two year-olds is on Thursday, and Preschool Story Time for three and four year-olds is on Friday. All Story Times take place at 10:00 a.m.

Download a digital title - If you cannot make it to the Library, download a children’s eBook or eAudiobook from the Library’s website. All you need is your Library card number and PIN. Visit www.hplibrary.info or call 214-559-9400 for more information on the Library and its collections.

Consider giving your child a special gift during Children’s Book Week- a library card. There is no charge for a child’s Highland Park Library card if the child is a resident of the Town of Highland Park. A child and his guardian can visit the Library during business hours to fill out a library card application.

Children’s Book Week is administered by Every Child a Reader, www.ecarfoundation.org. The Children’s Book Council is an anchor sponsor. For more information on Children’s Book Week, visit www.bookweekonline.com.
