Libraries transform lives through education by continually adapting and expanding services, which can extend far beyond the four walls of a building, to meet the evolving needs of their communities.
September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, a time when the Highland Park Harvey R. "Bum" Bright Library joins with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to inform parents, caregivers, and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.
Tony Award-winning performer, actress, singer-songwriter, and philanthropist Idina Menzel and her sister, author and educator Cara Mentzel, have been named honorary chairs of Library Card Sign-Up Month. As honorary chairs, Idina and Cara will remind everyone that one of the best places to find your voice and let your imagination sing is at the library.
Libraries play a crucial role in the education and development of children, offering a variety of programs to spark creativity and stimulate an interest in reading and learning. Through access to technology, media resources, and educational programs, a library card gives students the tools to succeed in the classroom and provides people of all ages opportunities to pursue their dreams, explore new passions and interests, and find their voice. Libraries provide vibrant opportunities for patrons to interact with others, grow, and exchange ideas.
The Highland Park Library serves as the community's connection to lifelong learning by powering imagination through creativity and discovery.
