On June 4, 2013, Highland Park DPS officers responded to a 9-1-1 call at 6:24 p.m. where a resident reported being followed home by a suspicious person. The area was searched and the suspect was located a short time later by Highland Park DPS officers in a public parking lot at 3000 Mockingbird Lane. The suspect tried to flee on a stolen motorcycle and violently struggled with Highland Park officers before he was apprehended.
The video below is a dramatization of the events as shown to the media during a press conference on March 27, 2014. The video includes the actual 9-1-1 phone call, police radio communications, and in-car video of the events leading up to the officer-involved shooting on June 4, 2013.
Last year, the Town sent a letter to residents (PDF) summarizing the events on June 4, 2013, where an independent investigation would be lead by the Dallas County Sheriff's Department, reviewed by the Dallas County District Attorney's Office, and ultimately presented to the Dallas County Grand Jury.
