Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to:
    • Sit and talk or hear
    • Stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls
    • Reach with hands and arms, climb or balance
    • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
    • Taste or smell
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 180 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include visual acuity of at least 20/100 correctable to 20/20, close vision, distance vision, normal color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Normal hearing in each ear
  • Height and weight in proportion to size
  • Ability to sit, stand, and transport self from building to building or sick or injured from building to mobile intensive care unit.
  • Sufficient physical strength and stamina to bend, run, lift equipment and hoses, and crawl into small spaces in order to fight fires and perform rescue operations
  • Must be able to restrain suspects
  • May ride in patrol vehicle or walk for extended periods on a walking beat
